A strange phenomenon exists with people: some are capable of understanding complex topics like math, or have incredible gifts like the ability to make money and run a business, or the ability to write, but that same person can be completely and totally ignorant to things like historical facts, politics, and other foundational things that can lead them to critical errors in life.
A well-rounded worldview and perspective in life, and a balanced, diverse set of skills and information is what people need to really not make mistakes, to be safe, and to know what they need to know. Sometimes, the very premise upon what a person believes can be false, and if that person never goes outside their usual range of information, what they learn about, they could easily believe something that is false or warped in life because they have a foundational erroneous belief.
People like Mark Dice point out the worst in humanity, making videos about how people know nothing about basic things people learn in Elementary school, like geographical questions or historical questions. However, those same people possess skills that many others don’t even have. However, to be fair the “Idiocracy” thing where everyone is dumbed down is becoming more of a reality and a decline has definitely occurred when it comes to general ambition to be knowledgeable. At the same time, people regenerate and grow new hobbies, skills, and positive elements in culture emerge year after year.
In that “Mark Dice” vein of what amounts to entertainment, because it’s shocking and subconsciously entertaining to witness the intellectual demise of society, recently articles circulated about people who really thought the Earth itself just turned 2019 years old. Without further introduction, here are those 17 people. Are some of them trolling?
Some of those people were definitely trolling. People can’t pretend to not understand this simple fact: human beings tend to learn what they need, to have what they want in life, and what doesn’t pertain to that, sometimes is neglected. Those people who think the Earth is 2019 years old, the young ones probably lack skill or knowledge but it’s really possible for someone who is intelligent in other ways, to be completely ignorant to other things.
Make no mistake though, society is being dumbed down. At the same time, is it helpful to hone in on how people are dumb and think about that, or to appreciate some other things?
Other things, like the fact that human beings seem to have bottomless resilience and can withstand pretty much anything that happens to them in terms of trauma and overcome that with enough willpower.
Is it bitter to see people as all sheep-like, and dumb? Those who are stuck in a trance and genuinely sheep-like and clueless on how the world really works are not to be underestimated in how intensely far gone they are, and how that adversely affects society, but it’s not always a helpful attitude to constantly focus on that. It requires a real diffusion of all bitterness in a person’s attitude when expressing that.
