Epstein Found Unconscious

The saga of 66-year-old billionaire offender Jeffrey Epstein continues to get more interesting and bizarre as his case continues to unfold. The notorious financier was found unconscious in his prison cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) this week with ‘marks on his neck,’ but prison officials are baffled as to the circumstances behind his injury.

“Two sources tell News 4 that Epstein may have tried to hang himself, while a third source cautioned that the injuries were not serious and questioned if Epstein might be using it as a way to get a transfer,” NBC New York reported.

Another source told NBC that assault was a possibility and that other inmates who interacted with Epstein were questioned about his injuries. This is because people who are guilty of the crimes that Epstein is accused of often find themselves as targets in prison. People who commit crimes against children do not last very long in prison.

“The sex offenders have a hard time,” said former BOP employee Jack Donson. “He’s definitely going to get ostracized.”

US District Judge Richard Berman denied the wealthy financier bail last week, saying that he posed an “extraordinary risk of flight” due to his “exorbitant wealth.”

Attorney Andrew Laufer has said that Epstein will likely spend 23 hours per day in solitary confinement because of the nature of his crimes.

“When you have someone that’s allegedly a sexual predator like Jeffrey Epstein, he’ll need to be in protective custody,” Laufer said.

The allegations against Epstein are very similar to the previous allegations that landed him in court the last time. Prosecutors say Epstein paid underage girls for massages and would then force himself onto them once they were alone. Some of the victims were reportedly as young as 14.

Epstein has been a very controversial figure for many years, as he essentially pled guilty to sexual assault charges in 2008, in exchange for a deal that allowed him to avoid serious prison time. Epstein was a prominent banker and financier who has been long time friends with people like Bill Clinton, Donald Trump and Prince Andrew.

In September 2002, Epstein flew Bill Clinton, Kevin Spacey, and Chris Tucker to Africa in his private jet. Flight records show Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s plane 26 times. Epstein’s plane has been nicknamed the “Lolita Express” by media due to his conviction and the accusations of sexual involvement with underage girls made against him.

Epstein owns a private island near Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Islands called Little Saint James, where he regularly vacations with world leaders, away from the prying eyes of news reporters. This island is rumored to be a place that Epstein used for his trafficking operations, since he had so much privacy there.

It was also reported that he will be turning into a witness for prosecutors in other cases, and will be giving testimony and evidence relating to other high profile offenders.

This deal will reportedly reduce his prison sentence to a maximum of five years.

Advocates for victims are upset that he will receive such a light sentence, but Epstein’s testimony can expose many other high profile predators.

If not for the deal, the initial charges against him would carry a maximum sentence of 45 years in prison.
