Man Rescued Alive From Bear’s Den Had Rotting Skin And Looked Like A Mummy

A man was rescued from a bear den after spending an entire month trapped in the animal’s lair. The man was apparently mistaken for a mummy by the people who found him, because he was in such bad shape.

The man was in a remote region in Russia when he got into an altercation with a bear. The bear broke the man’s back, and tossed him into its den for safe keeping until it was ready to eat. The man was nearly dead when he was found by hunting dogs who alerted their owners.

“A group of local hunters found Alexander after their dogs refused to leave the area of the den. Their persistent barking pushed the hunters to check inside the lair, where they found a barely-alive man. He was rushed to the local hospital and has been diagnosed with a broken spine and severe emaciation,” Siberian Times reported.

The victim, known to the media as “Alexander” said that “The bear preserved me as food for later.” He told doctors that he drank his own urine to survive, and that he had no food to live on.

Because of his memory loss, it is still unclear why he was in this remote region to begin with, or how the altercation with the bear began. It is suspected that perhaps Alexander was a hunter, since there are not many other reasons to be out in this remote part of the country.

Alexander was in the dark and musty cave for so long that his skin began to rot, which gave his body a mummified appearance.

It was initially believed that the incident occurred in the Tyva region of Russia, however, a spokesman at the health ministry in Tyva Republic disputed these claims.

“We cannot confirm the case happened in Tuva. It was not registered by the Ministry of Health, the Emergencies Ministry or any other official body (in the region). Most probably, it happened somewhere outside Tuva,” the spokesperson said.
